Wrentham, MA – Today Chris Doughty, Republican candidate for Governor, and Kate Campanale, candidate for Lt. Governor, revealed their plan focused on helping Cape Cod. They are the only team in this race that has a specific plan for growing the economy and improving the quality of life on the Cape.
“Cape Cod is undeniably one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Its natural beauty and proximity to fresh and saltwater resources make it unique. For the Cape’s future, we need to balance a vibrant economy with preserving its natural resources. That’s why today we are announcing our initial plan of action to help the Cape when elected to the Corner Office,” said Doughty. The Doughty/Campanale plan addresses the following issues: - Ending Congestion
- Growing the Blue Economy
- Enhancing water quality
- Improving Cape Cod Connectivity
- Enhance travel and tourism
- Increase workforce housing
As part of the plan, Campanale will spend one day per month on the Cape working on local issues. Cape Cod will have a helping hand in the Corner Office.
“With innovative, creative and bold thinking, we can ensure that the Cape is the crown jewel of the Northeast United States for travel and tourism, grows emerging blue enterprises, and nurtures an exceptional quality of life,” said Campanale.
Doughty plans on making replacing the bridges a top item on his to-do list. He will use the power of the office to expedite and encourage the federal government to get the project moving forward. He will ensure that the state does their part.
Doughty/Campanale will encourage the blue economy and work to increase aquaculture on the Cape. They are also committed to revitalizing tourism. They will rebuild the visitor center that has been neglected for years, increase workforce housing to help the seasonal businesses, and create new events to feature Cape Cod.
“Our state was a top leader in tourism. It unfortunately has significantly dropped. I believe that our plan is the initial steps needed to rectify the decline. But, it is not enough to just address the travel industry. Our next Governor must embrace the blue economy,” said Doughty.
“Like every Bay Stater, my memories of vacationing with my family are priceless. The Cape is near and dear to my heart. I want to make sure that the Cape has the support it needs in Boston,” said Campanale.
