Scott Brown is many things: a former Massachusetts senator, a former diplomat for New Zealand and Samoa, and now a member of the ‘60s through ‘90s rock cover band “Scott Brown and the Diplomats.”

The band, for which Brown plays guitar and sings vocals, will be playing a set at GOP gubernatorial candidate Chris Doughty’s GOP Convention eve party.

The event will take place on May 20 at White Lion Brewing Co. in Springfield, and will feature “food, drinks and a few more surprises,” spokesperson Holly Robichaud said, though she didn’t specify whether booking Brown signaled an endorsement.

“The band is apolitical and we usually work when people want to hire us,” Brown said in an email. “The band agreed to do this event as we agree on all events. It is not an endorsement. But it’ll be wonderful to see a lot of old friends.”

He added that he would play for any other candidates as well.

GOP rival Geoff Diehl’s camp said it had “no comment” on the matter.
